Nico Rosberg snatches pole position in Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying

Nico Rosberg stormed to pole position in Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying. Lewis Hamilton will join Rosberg on the front row of the grid. Local hero Fernando Alonso failed to achieve the pole position and will start the Spanish Grand Prix from 5th.

Qualifying 3

The two AMG Mercedes F1 cars led the field in Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying. Rosberg stormed to pole position with a 1:20.718s, shocking the paddock with his second pole position in a row. Hamilton was 0.254s behind his German teammate ahead of Vettel and Raikkonen.

Despite strong performance earlier in the weekend both Ferrari drivers struggled to deliver in Q3 resulting on Alonso 5th and Massa 6th. Grosjean and Webber will start behind the two Ferraris while the Mercedes powered cars of Perez and di Resta completed the top ten

Qualifying 2

Jenson Button struggles in Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying

Jenson Button continued to struggle in his McLaren and was knocked out in Q2 having only set the 14th fastest time in the session. Lewis Hamilton remained strong by setting the fastest time of the session in the closing moments. Sutil under performed in this session and was knocked out in 13th place. Perez managed to pull himself into Q3 on his final lap, the only McLaren to get to Q3.

Q3 looked set to be a battle between Hamilton, Alonso, Raikkonen and Vettel.

Qualifying 3

Both Williams drivers were knocked out in the first stage of Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying. 2012 Grand Prix winner, Pastor Maldonado qualified 18th with his younger out qualifying him in 17th. Lewis Hamilton finished fastest in Q1 with a time of 1:21.728s with his fellow Mercedes teammate behind him in 2nd. Question marks were raised over the driving standards of Gutierrez as he clearly held up Kimi Raikkonen in the final sector of the lap however Raikkonen managed to post a lap securing him 4th.
